Who is England's best motorway service operator?
When you're on the motorway, do you have a preferred services that you always stop at? Do you find that you get a better service from a specific chain? A recent survey by independent watchdog Transport Focus has found out who we all think is the best!
The survey, which was taken by nearly 10,000 visitors, found that Extra and Westmorland have been voted England's best motorway service operator!
Extra, which operates six sites in the survey conducted by independent watchdog Transport Focus, and Westmorland, which operates four, achieved the joint highest overall satisfaction score of 97%.
Transport Focus said that across the country as a whole, motorway service operators performed well, with 93% of visitors satisfied with their experience.
Customers were least satisfied with the value for money of the food or drink they bought (69%) and those that drive for a living, including HGV drivers, were the least satisfied at 89%. However, this was an increase from 83% in 2019.
One thing to consider was that the poll was conducted between February and March, before the lockdown took place and some providers stopped allowing drivers to use certain facilities. The survey was also cut short due to the pandemic, but still had around two-thirds of the intended fieldwork completed; a total of 9,808 interviews.
In second place was Euro Garages (96%), then Roadchef (95%), Moto (93%) and then Welcome Break (92%).
Anthony Smith, Transport Focus chief executive, said: “Motorway services provide customers with a great experience with friendly and helpful staff, but there is still room for improvement when it comes to the value for money of the food and drink on offer.”
