A Summer of Staycations - Are You Ready?
If you’re a travel lover, or you like to spend part of your summer in a foreign country, things may have to change this year. Since the world went into a COVID-19 lockdown, international travel has dramatically plunged (and rightly so!). It is reported that there are around 164 airlines who have grounded their entire fleets, with another 91 using less that 10% of theirs.
The World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) have also reported that there are more than 200 countries and territories that have introduced COVID-19 travel restrictions – none of which have currently been lifted.
So, what does this mean for Summer 2020?
According to data compiled by ad-tech firm Sojern, online searches for international flights leaving this summer have completely collapsed, leaving many tourists opting to travel domestically. Hotel searches across 6 major nations show that for 5 of them, domestic searches are actually higher.
With more and more Britons likely to ‘staycation’ this year, meaning more BBQ’s, summer parties, beer and wine, the demand on the logistics sector is certain to increase. On top of this, we’re likely to come out of lockdown and head straight into Brexit, meaning further demand will placed on our haulage companies.
With this in mind, it has never been more important to ensure that your driver workforce strategy is robust and able to deal with the likely increase in demand, which could happen at the drop of a hat.
It’s vital to be proactive, not reactive, and this is where we can help. Using our platform, we’ve already helped plenty of leading haulage companies improve both their driver engagement and performance through a carefully thought out and effective driver workforce strategy.
