5 Smartphone Apps for HGV Drivers in 2020

We’ve put together a list of some of the ‘must-have’ smartphone apps for HGV drivers which will hopefully help reduce stress and make your life easier. Just remember, as with all mobile phone usage, we recommend using your phone safely.
INTRUCK
Intruck is a relatively new app and its popularity is rising fast! It is what you may class as an all-in-one app, offering everything that a HGV driver could need.
Firstly, you can complete all of your legally required daily checks. This is done via a simple tick/cross/not applicable button system, making it quick and easy to do. There is even an option to include additional comments or supporting images if required. Once saved, everything will be uploaded to your portal where you can view, download and even print all of historic daily checks.
Alongside the daily checks, the app also shows live availability of parking spaces with the ability to pre-book and pay for them via SNAP. All of the sites also have facility information and even images that have been uploaded by other drivers to help you make your decision.
TRUCKER TIMER
The Trucker Timer app is an advanced tachograph and driver log which is designed to keep you legal within the many complex rules of the EU driver’s hours’ regulations.
Some of the main features includes the ability to accurately track your driving hours whilst alerting you of any impending fatigue warnings – pretty helpful!
At app supports EU, AETR and GB domestic heavy vehicle fatigue regulations and is available on both iOS and Android devices.
COPILOT
Unlike regular GPS navigation apps, the CoPilot app knows and accounts for the fact that you’re driving an HGV. So if you’ve ever found that you’ve been directed down a lane that’s too narrow for your HGV, or been surprised to find a low bridge on your way to your destination, then this app is perfect for you.
The routes used by the app will avoid truck-restricted or prohibited roads, automatically calculating the routes most suitable to your vehicle’s size, weight, width and even load type.
The app will even work whilst offline, but if connected to mobile data, it will also show you live traffic for your route – perfect!
CLEARSCAN
The ClearScan app is a great way to save time a be more efficient. By using this scanner app, you’re able to immediately scan a document, receipt or timesheet and share it instantly with customers, colleagues or your boss.
It’s really simple and easy to forward copies should you need to, as is keeping a record of what you have sent and accessing documents wherever you are.
The scans are clear, bright and easy to read, and the app is even free to use - although there are ads which you can pay to remove.
FLEETSAFER
FleetSafer is a brilliant app if you find yourself easily distracted whilst behind the wheel. Using GPS technology, it recognises when you’re driving and brings up a curtain screen which eliminates all calls, texts and emails, allowing you focus fully on your driving and the road ahead.
Another cool feature is that once your vehicle has stopped moving, all of your call and message functionality will return to normal, allowing you to use your device as you normally would!
This app is available to download on both Android and iOS devices.
